Year D

Hi Book Lovers!  It's been a while since I did a book review - and I'm sure you've been reading books like crazy.  I haven't stopped reading life just took a different direction but I'm hoping to be back to reviewing books.  I think I'll start with one I recently read and wrote on Google Book reviews -

Year D: A Quadrennial Supplement to the Revised Common Lectionary

Front CoverWho is this written for: A nonfiction academic work written for pastors, educators, lay people, and homiletic (preaching) academics currently using the resource the revised common lectionary to preach / teach

Review: I highly recommend this book as a supplement for some and an addition for others using the three year revised common lectionary. Dr. Timothy Mathew Slemmons provides a thoughtful alternative to add into the current liturgical year specifically looking at passages that are neglected by the current revised common lectionary. For those looking for a completely new year of preaching / liturgical reflections Year D provides a delightful addition to your church year.

About the Author: Dr. Timothy Slemmons is currently a professor at Dubuque Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa.  He studied at Princeton Theological Seminary and has served as an ordained Presbyterian Pastor.

Lucky Dog Books

Having been away for a while - I think it's appropriate to have a launch about what going on my world of books with a local bookstore in Dallas, Texas in the Oak Cliff neighborhood.  Oak Cliff is a cute historic area of Dallas that used to be it's own town before like Brooklyn in New York City decided to join the Dallas conglomerate.

In recent years Oak Cliff has had a draw to artists, musicians, authors, and bohemians of all stripes and colors.  I guess that's what drew us here. Places like the Bishop Arts District - good eats ranging from the Tex Mex variety to Barbeque to Southern Cooking and everything in between abound - cool and kitchy boutiques embrace the area - while a down home feel brings you in.

Lucky Dog Books Inside
A store that encompasses all that and more is Lucky Dog Bookstore located on Davis celebrating their one year anniversary at that location.  From the outside the store looks like a warehouse and you wonder is this place really open?  Walking inside your world is opened to the tunes of jazz, bluegrass, and rhythm and blues expanded into endless rows of literature, art, fiction, music, history, theology, you name it.

I was certainly surprised by this place and if you are interested in exploring it for yourself - check it out this weekend as they host a one year anniversary celebration - celebrating the establishment and bohemians and artists who make the store what is including my hubby Chris Roode who's spinning from 4-9pm tonight.
